SEIF 9 (Cont.)

When whiskey is Chamar Medina, it is permitted to make Kiddush over it. The Elya Rabba says that one must drink a Malei Lugmav of it without much of a delay.

The Tosfos Shabbos says that there are those who do not allow making Kiddush on whiskey, since Halachically it is not classified as a drink.

BEER

SEIF 9
The Gemara says that Ravin made Havdala on beer when it was Chamar Medina (the wine substitute of the country.) The Gemara there has a Shaila whether Kiddush can be made on beer. The Gemara answers that neither Kiddush nor Havdala can be made on beer.  The Rosh explains that according to this Gamara, one cannot make Kiddush or Havdala on beer. Alternatively, the Gemara may be saying not to make Kiddush or Havadala if the drink is not Chamar Medina, but if it is Chamar Medina, then making Kiddush and Havdala over it would be allowed.

COOKED WINE PART TWO

SEIF 8 (Cont.)
Tosfos brings a proof from the Yerushalmi that wine is improved by cooking. There is a Machlokes between the Rabanan and R' Yehuda if someone can take off cooked wine for uncooked wine when taking Truma. The rule is that one cannot take Truma from a lesser quality item to Pattur items of a higher quality. Tosfos learns the Maskana in the Yerushalmi that the Rabanan hold that one may take Truma from the cooked wine, since cooking improves it. Since we Paskin like the Rabanan, therefore cooked wine is considered an improvement and would retain the Bracha Hagafen.
