The Gemara in Pesachim says that Rabba told his Talmidim to eat with him when he made Kiddush. He was concerned that when they would go to their own lodgings, perhaps the lights would go out and they would not be able to be Yoitze Kiddush there, since they would not be able to eat in the dark.

EATING FRUITS

Even according to the Geonim who say wine by itself is sufficient to be considered the meal in place of Kiddush, they would agree that one could not be Yoitze Kiddush by just eating fruits. The Magen Avraham brings the Shiltei Giborim that argues and says that it is possible to be Yoitze Kiddush with fruit. Though normally fruit is not considered a meal (since it is not filling), but on Shabbos it is.

FOOD THAT'S CONSIDERED TO BE A MEAL

The Geonim write that a person must be Yoitze Kiddush in the place where the meal is eaten if enough wine has been consumed to obligate him with a Bracha Achrona. The Magen Avraham brings proof to this (i.e. that one needs to drink enough to make a Bracha Achrona). The Gemara in Pesachimbrings a Machlokes regarding the need to make Kiddush in the place where the meal is eaten. Shmuel holds that Kiddush must be made there, and therefore one is not Yoitze with the Chazon's Kiddush.
