EATING PART OF SHAALOS SEUDOS AFTER ZMAN MINCHA

The Magen Avraham writes that if one starts Shaalos Seudos before the
Time of Mincha, but the meal stretches and goes into the time of Shaalos
Seudos, he is Yoitze Shaalos Seudos. The Elya Rabba, however, quotes the Sefer
Chasidim which holds that a person cannot split a meal so that half of it
should be considered  Shaalos Seudos. He holds that a full meal needs to
be eaten at the time when Shaalos Seudos may be eaten.

TIME OF SHAALOS SEUDOS

The Ran writes that one may split up the morning meal by spreading a cloth on the bread, Bentching, then making Hamoitzie again. However, Tosfos and Rosh write that a person would not be Yoitze Shaalos Seudos unless he eats from the time of Mincha (six and a half hours after the beginning of the day).

SPLITTING THE MORNING MEAL IN TWO

The Magen Avraham in the name of the Sefer Chasidim writes that if someone has only two meals for Shabbos, he should not split the daytime meal into two parts in order to fulfill the Mitzva of Shaalos Seudos. Rather he should eat the complete morning meal so he will be satiated. The Magen Avraham brings a proof from R' Akiva's statement that if one does not have enough money to buy three meals, he should prepare two meals like those eaten during the weekdays, and need not take charity for a third meal. If a person would be required to split the main daytime meal in half in order to fulfill the Mitzva of Shaalos Seudos, then even if he had two meal, he would be able to eat three meals. Thus, it must mean that if he eats the daytime meal completely, there is no need to split the meal in half.
