SPLITTING THE MORNING MEAL IN TWO

If someone's morning meal stretches until Mincha time, he can split the meal in two in order to fulfill the Mitzvah of Shaalos Seudos. The Rosh explains that this it is advisable to do so, since  if one were to eat a large meal, he might be too full to eat Shaalos Seudos at a later time. Rather, he should split up the meal and eat while he still has his appetite. (Sometimes a person can eat a large meal at one time, but waiting until later might ruin his appetite and he would be too full to eat another meal.)

Rabeinu Tam says that one should eat Shaalos Seudos before Mincha.  The Medrish says that someone who drinks water Bein Hashmashes is stealing from the dead (who need the water to cool down before returning to Gehenim).

Rabeinu Tam says that one should eat Shaalos Seudos before Mincha.  The Medrish says that someone who drinks water Bein Hashmashes is stealing From the dead (who need the water to cool down before returning to Gehenim). The Gra quotes a Rashba that brings a Yerushalmi which tells the story of someone who drank Bein Hashmashes and the Malach Hamaves killed him for it since he was stealing from the dead. Therefore one should eat before Mincha, otherwise he may eat and come to drink during Bein Hashmashes.
